Deputy Chief for Export Control and Sanctions

Elizabeth Cannon is the Deputy Chief for Export Control and Sanctions within the Department of Justice’s National Security Division, Counterintelligence and Export Control Section (CES). As Deputy Chief of CES, Liz is responsible for reviewing, approving, and supervising all IEEPA, ECRA, and AECA criminal cases around the country. Prior to becoming Deputy Chief, she was a trial attorney for six years within CES, prosecuting a variety of national security cases, including espionage, economic espionage, sanctions, export controls, and cyber offenses. Before joining CES, she spent several years as a litigation associate in the DC office of a large, international law firm. Liz holds a JD from New York University School of Law and a BS in Commerce from the University of Virginia.
